Why choose pole cleaning over traditional methods?
The first ‘reach and wash’ or water-fed pole systems were first developed over 30 years ago and the technology has come a long way since the early ‘DIY’ systems the window cleaners of the day fashioned for themselves.
A water-fed pole is literally just that – the water is fed up the pole to a brush head on the end which is used to clean both the window glass and the sills and frame around it. The water however is not just ordinary water. It is specially filtered to become ‘pure water’. A 3 stage reverse osmosis filtration system is used to take out 90% of the contaminants before it is pumped through a de-ionizing vessel which removes the final contaminants. Once the water is 100% pure it is pumped up the pole to brush.
Pure water is also known as ‘aggressive’ water, it is capable of washing and cleaning dirt off surfaces without the need for soaps or detergents. The window glass dries to a totally clean, spot-free finish without the need for squeegee’ing.

In 2019 we invested in a new van and system which had the added benefit of a water heater so in addition to the water being pure it is also warm which further aids the cleaning process.
Whilst the water is known as aggressive, it is totally environmentally friendly and will not harm lawns, plants or animals or adversely affect any other surfaces it comes into contact with. The pole system also avoids the need for badly placed ladders damaging lawns and flower borders or strange faces appearing unannounced at upstairs windows!
Traditional soap-based window cleaning methods, however well performed, will leave behind a sticky residue which attracts fresh dirt back to the window. Windows cleaned with the water fed pole system actually stay cleaner for longer as no chemicals or detergents are required.
The poles can reach windows up to 20 metres / 65 feet from the ground so three storey town houses or other taller buildings generally present no challenge.
